Welcome to the website of the School of Religion and Theology (SORAT), University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The Head of School is Prof Steve de Gruchy of the Pietermaritzburg campus.

The academic coordinator of Religion Studies is Prof Jannie Smit (smitj@ukzn.ac.za).

The academic coordinator of Theological Studies is Prof Isabel Phiri (phirii@ukzn.ac.za).

The academic coordinator of Biblical Studies is Prof Jonathan Draper (draper@ukzn.ac.za).

The coordinator of the Higher Degrees committee is Dr Sarojini Nadar (nadars@ukzn.ac.za).

Our School offers three disciplinary areas:

Religion (Religious Studies) is offered mostly on the Durban campus, with a few courses available in Pietermaritzburg. The Academic Affairs Coordinator for Religion is Prof Jannie Smit.
Theological Studies is offered on the Pietermaritzburg campus. The Academic Affairs Coordinator for Theological Studies is Prof Tony Balcomb.
Biblical Studies and Biblical Languages are offered on the Pietermaritzburg campus. The Academic Affairs Coordinator for Biblical Studies and Biblical Languages is Pat Bruce.

Our School caters for both undergraduate and postgraduate students; we are well-known for our extensive postgraduate programmes.
